December 2008 Newsletter

I want to take this opportunity to wish Happy Holidays” to all our families, staff and their families.  I’m looking forward to the busyness of the month with shopping, parties etc. I always take time to remind myself and my children that there are many families in our community who are not as fortunate as we are and who struggle financially, especially at this time of year. I teach them about giving to others and supporting other families any way we can.

This month at the Wee College we turn our focus to “Kids Helping Kids”. This fundraiser will focus on helping The Moncton Regional Learning Council raise money to purchase much needed supplies for a playschool program for the families in the Beechwood Crescent area who are actively engaged in upgrading their child’s math and reading shills.  A letter will be going out this month to explain how you can help. I encourage all of you to help us make a difference in these children’s lives.

The Totally Three class helped deliver 370 lbs of food donations to the Riverview Food bank last week. It was a great opportunity to teach the children about giving to others and need for food for the food bank. The staff was very appreciative and took the time to give the children a tour. Thank you for your support!

Christmas also is a time of year when we are in with the new and out with the old. Think of your children’s play when discarding items. It may be something we could use. Below are a few ideas this month and I’ll try to give a few examples each newsletter.

·                                 Real fir or pine Christmas trees (we will use them in our yards for interest areas)

·                                 Artificial trees

·                                 cell phone or other (batteries removed)

·                                 discman

·                                 toys(no stuffed toys or McDonald toys)

·                                 picture frames

·                                 wooden spoons, measuring cups/spoons, potato masher etc

·                                 we need your bacon grease etc to make suet balls for the birds

I’m happy to welcome Michael McCumber to our Youth Center staff. Mike has graduated from the Child & Youth program and is excited to work with our afterschool children. We are pleased to have him providing a positive male role model for the children as well as his sports and coaching experience.
