Hello Parents!

My first month here at the Wee College has been such a wonderful experience.  It has been such a pleasure to have the chance to care for your child, and get to know your child as an individual.   I look forward to continuing my work within the Wee R Three classroom greatly.

For the month of November the Wee R Threes have focused on our community.  We have taken community walks as well as visited a community playground, which the children enjoyed.  The kids were very interested in people’s jobs within the community.  We have discussed many careers, such as doctors, veterinarians, teachers, coaches, plumbers, city workers, chefs, store clerks, mail carriers and so many more!

We have been discussing Santa, and along with our talks came the question “What would you like Santa to bring you on Christmas Eve?”  This led into letters for Santa, which webbed off into “How will Santa receive our letters?”  After a discussion of the mail system, they all became very interested in how our community sends and receives mail.  We explored the need for mailboxes, and the kids made their own!  Envelopes, paper and other art materials were always available to the children for them to write letters, and send them to one another’s mail boxes.  They loved this!  We also talked about sorting mail, which led to our new Mail Sorting game!  To quench the children’s curiosity in mail, we had a quest mail carrier come to speak to the class.  They were thrilled, and had so many questions for Linda, the mail carrier.  They were proudly showing their mailboxes.  Linda even delivered letters to the children, which was very exciting for them.

Thank you so much for all your donations to our Food Drive.  The children learned so much about helping our community!  We have also collected clothes to be donated as well.

This past month, with the arrival of our first snow fall, the kids started exploring the snow!  Within their discovery, they realized how cold their hands become, without mittens!!  One child made a statement: “If you don’t wear mittens, your hands get cold then you can’t play with the snow.”  Another child asked; “What if you don’t have mittens?”.  We then talked about what it would feel like to play in the snow without mittens.  A few of the children were curious enough to remove their mittens and touch the snow with their bare hands.  The children became very concerned that there may be children without mittens, and asked if they could collect mittens for them, just like we did food.  What a great idea!!!  This will lead to our next project.....a Mitten Tree.  We will set up a tree, and collect pairs of mittens to be donated before the holidays.  If you have extra mittens, hats or scarves at home, please bring them in; it would be greatly appreciated.

The holidays are just around the corner.  With all the excitement around the children are very interested in Christmas, Santa, decorations and everything else this holiday entails.  I am very excited to celebrate this holiday season with your child, and starting the New Year here in the Wee R Three class.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Have a great month,
