Sr. Preschool
December 2008
November was a very
exciting month in our classroom, we learned about community helpers. We created
centers which reflected the children’s interests which included a baking center,
a hairdressing center, a construction center and a doctor center. The children
used boxes and made vehicles that community helpers would drive, and they also
traced themselves and chose which helper they would like to be and decorated
themselves and we displayed them in the windows.
This month the children showed an interest in the changing weather and the ice,
so we are doing some experiments with ice. They also expressed an interest in
baking so we will be making a pie with them.
The children enjoy our outdoor play time, which we have twice a day. To ensure
that all children stay warm and dry we ask that you send a winter coat, snow
pants, winter boats, mittens and a hat. We have found that some children have
the same boots, mittens, etc., so we ask that you put your child’s name on each
item so we can ensure that no items get mixed up. The children are also learning
to get themselves ready, so we ask if possible to send items that will be easy
for your children to learn to put on (ex. Pull on boots).
We would like to thank everyone for your contributions to our food drive; our
box was so full that we had to start another one. We used this opportunity to
talk to the children about helping others which will lead into one of our themes
for December which is giving and sharing.
We have many exciting things happening this month. We will be doing a recipe
wreathe and we will be sending two recipe cards home and ask that you write your
favourite family Holiday recipes. We will also be doing a reading tree, where we
will record all the books your child has read; we encourage you to look for this
in our classroom. We will be having pyjama day every Friday and ask that your
child wear theirs each Friday.
We have learned that Hadlee will be leaving us this month; she will be missed by
everyone. We have several birthdays this month. Edoardo and Giorgio on December
22 and Keira on December 24.
Some special dates to remember are December 12 when Santa will be visiting us
and December 18 when we will be having our Christmas party and Potluck.
We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season and look forward to another
year of fun, learning, and new experiences with your children.
